The Furness Peninsula has varied and interesting places to visit. Windermere, Grizedale and Rusland are only 25 minutes away for the traditional lakes visit but, of historic interest, Muncaster Castle just up the coast near Millom is well worth a visit as is Holker Hall at Cark. Both have wonderful gardens and ancient houses and spacious grounds for active children to roam.

The market towns of Ulverston and Broughton-in-Furness have livestock auctions on Thursdays and Tuesdays respectively, and on Thursdays and Saturdays, Ulverston has a lively street market, where you can literally buy anything and everything. It also has a lot of antique/junk shops for any collectors. Townhead Antiques at the southern end of Lake Windermere is very good for upmarket antiques.

There are some lovely beaches locally; the swimming is rather difficult as the tide goes out so far, but you can walk for miles without seeing another person, with very dramatic hills in the background. Silecroft Beach which is 40 minutes drive is really stunning, but you only need go 2 or 3 miles for your own private beach.

South Lakes Wild Animal Park near Dalton is great fun with tigers, rhinos, zebras and giraffes. The soil there is very red so the zebras are a rather strange colour !!!This park is about 20 minutes drive just beyond Ulverston.

Cascades Leisure Club at the Whitewater Hotel has fantastic facilities. For a small fee you will be able to use the swimming pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and gym. Squash courts are extra. It also has a restaurant and bar overlooking the River Leven.

The Greyhound Inn at Grizebeck is our local pub. It is 10 minutes walk down the drive from Keepers Cottage and The Cart House so you do not have to worry about drinking and driving. It is extremely friendly and has really excellent food. Mike, the landlord will give you a big welcome.
